#08 Getting Your Story Heard with Seth Godin
In this episode of Getting Goosebumps, I had the great opportunity to talk to one of the founding fathers of modern marketing, Seth Godin.
Seth is a writer, speaker and bestselling author of Linchpin, Tribes and my favourite of his books; Purple Cow.
As an expert in marketing, leadership and the way ideas spread I was really excited to hear his thoughts. Here are some of the topics covered in this week’s podcast…
Getting your story heard over all the noise
Whether it’s speed of delivery, level of quality, customer service or many other variables, it’s about how you get into the mind of your customer and what they’re looking for.
Seth goes into his own experiences of buying online and other examples showing why people would choose to buy a certain product online rather than shop locally, and what would turn their heads.
Why we cry at Disney films
Hands up who doesn’t shed a little tear watching The Lion King, Toy Story 3, or even the first 10 minutes of Up? These guys are expert storytellers for a reason; they know how to resonate with their audience! You relate to the stories with your own knowledge and experience.
We discuss how you can translate this into your content to really connect with your customers on a deeper level.
Authenticity vs Manipulation
We talk about the difference between compromising on authenticity and manipulating your audience. Is it possible to be 100% authentic in all your content?
Seth draws some great comparisons to going to the theatre or cinema and watching the actors. Does knowing they’re actors make your experience feel any less authentic?
